5 disadvantages of Granite Countertops

Here we will list the 5 main disadvantages of Granite Countertops over Quartz Countertops. This information is based on our study of the custom countertop market since 2009. We have been marketing for custom Stone fabricators all over the United states and based on our study of who and where people buy what materials for countertops. We find that Granite is the prefered material in much of the country.

5 disdvantages of Granite Countertops

1. Because this is a natural stone its probable that the surface may have small imprefections that could collect bacteria.
2. This is why the stone is sealed typically from the factory adn then sealed again at install.
3. This sealer application fills those imprefections with a material that is designed to last 1-5 years or more in some cases.
4. It is recommended to re seal your countertops each year. Avoid harsh abrasives that could remove the sealer.
5. Granite being a natural stone does not come with a warranty typically.
6. Sharp edges may chip and can be repired with epoxy
7. May scratch with repeated actions. Recommend a cutting broad.
8. Surface may etch with extended exposure to harsh chemicals.

While quartz is gaining in popularity when it comes to actually installing material in the home granite is more commonly purchased. Quartz due to its more uniform appearence tends to be better suited for commercial applications. These commercial applications are more commonly designed and redesigned and we beleive that slants the results giving quartz a bit of an inflated % of the market.
